all the small things part 1

hey there people. really really sorry for the super late post. i'm having problems scanning. my scanner being quite a b**** :-) so i cant put up the score just yet. hold on a bit aights!

lemme just give a short run down first. my first piece of music that i am analysing is the song all the small things, by one of my fav bands ever, blink 182. It's taken off the enema of the state album, released in 1999. (sorry, i have no idea how to put up pics here, so no album cover yet! i'm so not much of a blogger. heh. some help pls..!!)

fistly, im not sure how to put up the song online.. hahah.. wats new.. butt i figured putting up the music video might be a better idea (thank god for youtube!). It's quite a funny video as the boys fom blink take a dig at boybands. do take it with a pinch of salt, especially u boyband lovers out there. oh n close your eyes if there are uncensored clips :-p enjoy!

LYRICS
All the, small things
True care, truth brings
I'll take, one lift
Your ride, best trip

Always, I know
You'll be at my show
Watching, waiting, commiserating

Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Na, Na.......

Late night, come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs
Surprises let me know she cares

Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Na, Na......

Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep your head still I'll be your thrill, the night will go on, my little
windmill
Say it ain't so, I will not go, turn the lights off, carry me home
Keep your head still, I'll be your thrill, the night will go on, the night will
go on, my little windmill

Once again i apologise for the lack of pictures. Will get that rectified asap.
Ok to start off, this song is in C major key. The whole song, save the intro and the bridge, uses a I V IV progression. i find that in itself very surprising as it really isn't easy writing a song with just 3 chords repeated throught. The fact that this song is really famous says alot about how pple appreciate music these days, and also the talent involved in making a basically 3 chord song work. Another thing i find surprising about the progression is that it really differs with what dr. chong taught us in class reagarding them classical pieces. a tonic followed by a dominant then a predominant doesnt make musical sense in the old days. wat's funny is dat the dominant chord takes on the pre dominant functoin and the pre dominant chord takes on the dominant function. n surprisingly, it works!

the song is placed at a moderately fast rock tempo of 148 beats per minute. Chords used are mainly power chords, C5, G5, F5, which are basically are the first fifth and eight of the chord. although the third is omitted, the major sound still is prominent due to the progression and the pitch of the other chords (C G and F chords exist in a C major progression).

I guess that's it for now. WIll add more as i analyse more. thanx for reading. laters.
